Q

Why do I get a message telling me I cannot deactivate my software?

A

Our activation system is designed to try and ensure that everyone who uses does so within the bounds of the licence agreements.  Since most of our software comes with a licence key which allows you to use it on both a desktop and a laptop, to avoid people just switching their licence between more than two machines as needed (for example, a small business with 5 users sharing the two activations between them, deactivating and reactivating as required) we implement some time restrictions on how often you can deactivate existing licences.

You can activate your software on two machines in quick succession (as may happen when you install the software for the first time), but once activated, the following restrictions typically apply:-

  • You cannot deactivate a licence instance within 28 days of it being activated
  • You cannot deactivate a licence key more than 4 times in 12 months (this is a rolling count)

If you attempt to deactivate a licence and you have broken these restrictions, the software will return the one of the following messages.

  • You cannot de-activate a licence in the X days after it was activated.  You must wait until YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS before you can de-activate it!
  • You cannot de-activate a licence more than X times in a period of X days.  You must wait until YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS before you can de-activate it!

If you are trying to deactivate because you need to change your machine, please raise a support ticket providing your username, licence key and the name of the machine you wish to deactivate ahead of schedule and we will remove the restriction on that licence instance allowing you to deactivate it.

We will NOT do this more than twice in a 12 month period.
